WHAT IS 1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN?

Read your way toward kindergarten readiness! 1000 Books Before Kindergarten (1000B4K) is a self-guided, read-at-home program for all children, from birth up until the time they start school. The goal? For every child to be exposed to at least 1000 books before kindergarten.

Sign up to receive a tracking booklet to keep track of all of the books you and your child read together. Earn badges and prizes along the way, and build a strong early literacy foundation to help get your child ready to read on their own.

Bay County Library System runs 1000B4K on a continuous basis; the only deadline is your child’s kindergarten year! 1000B4K is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children.
