The Evening Sessions is a monthly adult program series featuring a fun and engaging mix of presentations, lectures, workshops, demonstrations, author visits, and performances on topics covering the arts, culture, history, science, and more!

Join us for a screening of the documentary Detroit's Olympic Uprising with the filmmaker, Aaron Schillinger.

In 1963, Detroit’s Olympic dreams clash with the Black communities urgent need for change. Would a winning bid have changed the city’s trajectory?

Aaron Schillinger is a documentary filmmaker, plant forager, editing wiz, sci-fi nerd and devoted daddy to a parrot and wee human. His films include the award-winning Boblo Boats: A Detroit Ferry Tale, narrated by Martha Reeves. The film is distributed by PBS and streaming on Amazon Prime. Detroit’s Olympic Uprising, which premiered during the 2024 Olympics, is his second feature length documentary. Aaron is also cofounder of the Sarah E. Ray Project, an organization shining a light on the forgotten story of a Detroit civil rights pioneer.
